I have a very rudimentary doubt. We know that a LAN has addresses in the same subnet. The LAN ends at the gateway router with that interface also belonging to the same subnet. But what exactly will break in the forwarding operation if we assign LAN addresses that belong to different subnets. Virtual machines (VMs) in Azure can have multiple virtual network interface cards (NICs) attached to them. A common scenario is to have different subnets for front-end and back-end connectivity. You can associate multiple NICs on a VM to multiple subnets, but those subnets must all reside in the same virtual network (vNet). Jul 22, 2020 · Two gateways on two different subnets on the same interface I have some servers and routers in my network and want to keep the network up and running while switching ISP. Of course, I must change the IP addresses of all my servers and routers. This guide aims to explain how to link different subnets together using static routes to forward traffic to the desired subnet of another router. I will avoid going into too much detail about subnetting in general, though I will say that there are benefits to using subnets such as reducing network traffic (less broadcast frames) and better

Mar 26, 2020 · Essentially, a subnet is a smaller portion of the network within class A, B, or C. Creating and using subnets can help to keep your network organized and functional. Let’s suppose a business wants to use four different IP address blocks for the different segments of its network, with 50 hosts per segment.

In VLSM, subnets have flexible number of host addresses and use different subnet mask. Following figure shows an example of FLSM and VLSM. FLSM is easy in implementation and simple in operation but wastes a lot of IP addresses.

If the different subnets can route to each other, than the next two sections are relevant. The host can talk to both arrays through routing. If the subnets are closed off and cannot route to one another, than this is a different story and your host won’t be able to communicate at all with the array/ports in a different subnet.
